Run Nova Scotia Road Race Series Agreement
By applying to be on the Run Nova Scotia Road Race Series, you agree to the following conditions:
All Races
The race is run at a specific physical location on a particular day at a fixed time (i.e., no virtual events)
On Acceptance into the Series
Each race distance accepted for the Run Nova Scotia series must be certified by Athletics Canada before race day.
Registration Form (print and online) includes:
- Race name, date, location (civic address and building or park name), start time, start location if different from the kit pickup location
- Race fee structure
- Run NS membership online registration purchase option
- The words “Run Nova Scotia Road Race Series” and “Run Nova Scotia Performance Series”, as applicable
- The Run Nova Scotia sponsor block
- The Run Nova Scotia waiver
- Mailing address, if forms can be mailed in
- Race distance(s) that is/are certified*
- Length of time the race route is open
- Contact information for race director or representative
- Notice that non-service dogs are banned from participating in the race
*All series races must be certified by Athletics Canada.
Race Services: Sign In
- Sign in area is easy to find, accessible and organized
- There are enough toilets available at sign in
- Water is available at sign in
Race Services: Race Start
- The start area is clearly marked
- Announcements are clear and frequent
- The start area is large enough for the number of participants
- Mi’kmaki land acknowledgement is made
- The length of time the race route is open is made clear
- Check that no non-service dogs are in the start corral
- Timing services are ready at start time
- First aid providers are available and easily identified
Race Services: On Route
- Enough course marshals
- Course marshals are wearing safety vests and are easy to find
- Directions are given correctly
- Water is available
- There are caution signs
- There are distance marks or markers
- There are no non-service dogs in the race
- There is a trail vehicle/bike/person who can be reached easily by phone and stays with the last participant until that participant crosses the finish line
Race Services: Finish Line
- Finish line is clearly marked
- Course marshals are wearing safety vests and are easy to find
- Toilet facilities are available
- Water is available
- First aid providers are available and easily identified
- Run Nova Scotia finish line equipment is used and/or is given mic time
- Space is provided for the Run Nova Scotia tent and/or display board
- Age class winners are acknowledged equally and in all age classes (junior (1-19); open (everyone); masters (40-49); senior masters (50-59); golden masters (60-69); platinum masters (70-79); titanium masters (80-89); rhodium masters (90+)
- Awards are presented in a timely manner
- Finish line and finish services are available as long as indicated or until the last participant crosses the finish line if that is before the indicated time.
Should you be successful in your application, your event will be assessed on the foregoing conditions. By being accepted onto the Run Nova Scotia Road Race and/or Performance Series, Run Nova Scotia will meet the following conditions:
Communication and Promotion
- Timely communication by the Run Nova Scotia Road Race Series Coordinator and/or Performance Series Co-ordinator, as applicable
- Inclusion of your race in the online calendar on our website, on the print calendar at the display booth and in the promotional rack card
- Promotion of your race on our social media channels: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram
- Inclusion of your race promotion print material (e.g., rack card, brochure, information sheet, registration form) at our booth at series races prior to yours (we suggest sending them to us at least 45 days ahead of your event—earlier is better)
- Promotion of your race in the members-only email newsletter, no less than six weeks in advance of your event, and a recap the week after (You are welcome to send us content for the newsletter)
In Advance of the Event
- If your event requires Run Nova Scotia race bibs are available upon request
- If your event is not already certified by Athletics Canada, Run Nova Scotia will consider assisting with the cost of event measurement and certification.
Race Day: Pre-race
- The Run Nova Scotia van and all the equipment will arrive at your race site one hour before race start
- At least one Run Nova Scotia representative will set up the finish area

As required, and in conjunction with your own equipment and any timing equipment, we will set up a finish line area, including:
- Inflatable finish arch (subject to weather conditions)
- Finish chute (tape stanchions and/or pylons)
- Public address system, including microphone and music
- Display clock
- Generators and power cords
- Weights and other stabilizing equipment
Race Day: Post-race
- Clean up of the Run NS footprint at the finish line area
- Post a link to your race results on our website
